AI consulting in Chicago.

Clairvance is an AI consulting firm that also does the implementation: we map how work gets done, then build AI and integrations into the systems your company already runs, test them, train your people and hand them over. We work with Chicago companies, most often food and beverage producers, distributors, and the trucking, logistics and rail operators that move freight through the region.

Clairvance is based in Seattle and travels to Chicago for on site discovery, testing and launch, with the rest of the work remote.

The Chicago operating picture

Freight, food and risk in one metro

Chicago combines the country's main rail interchange, its largest food manufacturing workforce and a deep finance and insurance base. Each produces a steady flow of documents, status updates and handoffs, which is where AI earns its keep.

A quarter of U.S. freight trains pass through

The CREATE program, the public private partnership improving the region's rail network, reports that one of every four U.S. freight trains passes through Chicago, about 500 freight trains and 800 passenger and commuter trains every day. For a carrier, drayage operator or short line, that volume shows up as appointment changes, interchange delays and status checks rekeyed between systems. AI can read those updates and route the exceptions into the dispatch or TMS a team already uses.

The country's largest food manufacturing workforce

World Business Chicago counts more than 75,000 people employed in food manufacturing in the region, first in the nation, with more than $12 billion in annual output. Plants at that scale carry specifications, lot records, supplier certificates and retailer orders, much of it still arriving as PDFs and email. Moving that data into the ERP and quality systems, with a person reviewing exceptions, is practical work for a producer or co-packer.

More logistics businesses than any other major metro

World Business Chicago reports 17,183 transportation, distribution and logistics businesses in the metro, first among major U.S. metro areas, employing more than 266,000 people. Many compete on response time across quotes, order entry, proof of delivery and carrier invoices. Those are repeatable document flows where AI prepares the work and a person approves it, inside the systems already in place.

A top three finance and insurance market

World Business Chicago counts 13,163 finance and insurance businesses in the region, employing more than 265,000 people and producing more than $69 billion in output, third among major U.S. metros on both employment and output. For agencies, brokers and finance teams, submissions, renewals, reconciliations and close packages are often assembled by hand. AI can draft and check that work while the accountable person signs off.

Before you deploy AI in Illinois

Illinois rules to know before AI touches people data

Illinois has some of the most specific state rules on AI in hiring and on biometric data. This is a short orientation, not legal advice; your counsel should review any deployment that touches applicant, employee or customer data.

AI in employment decisions, in force since January 1, 2026

Public Act 103-0804 amended the Illinois Human Rights Act so that an employer may not use artificial intelligence that has the effect of discriminating against protected classes in recruitment, hiring, promotion, discipline, discharge or other terms of employment, or use zip codes as a proxy for protected classes. Employers must also notify employees when AI is used for those purposes, so any screening or performance tool we build for an Illinois employer includes that notice and a bias review.

Biometric Information Privacy Act (740 ILCS 14)

BIPA covers retina or iris scans, fingerprints, voiceprints and scans of hand or face geometry. Before collecting them, a private entity must tell the person in writing what is collected, for what purpose and for how long, get a written release, and publish a retention and destruction policy; liquidated damages are $1,000 per negligent violation and $5,000 per intentional or reckless one. A 2024 amendment, Public Act 103-0769, accepts an electronic signature as the release and treats repeated collection from the same person by the same method as a single violation.

Artificial Intelligence Video Interview Act (820 ILCS 42)

An employer that uses AI to analyze recorded video interviews for Illinois based positions must, before the interview, tell each applicant that AI may be used, explain how it works and what general characteristics it evaluates, and get the applicant's consent. Videos may be shared only with people whose expertise is needed to evaluate the applicant, and must be deleted within 30 days of an applicant's request.

How an engagement runs

One workflow first. Then the next.

We start with a conversation about one recurring process: the people who touch it, the systems involved and the outcome you need. Then we map the work as it actually happens, agree a defined scope, build the integrations and AI into the software your team already uses, test the hard cases with that team, train the people who will run it, and hand it over with named owners.

Questions Chicago companies ask.

Do you have an office in Chicago?

No. Clairvance is based in Seattle. We travel to Chicago for on site discovery, testing and launch, whether that is a plant floor, a dispatch office or an agency, and do the rest of the work remotely with your team.

Which Chicago industries do you work with?

Food and beverage producers, distributors, trucking and logistics firms, short line railroads and manufacturers come first in Chicago, because that is where the region's volume sits. We also work with insurance agencies and brokers, finance teams, multi unit restaurant groups and accounting firms.

How does an engagement start?

With a conversation about one workflow: what it is, which systems it touches and the outcome you want. From there we write a defined scope covering discovery, the build inside your existing systems, testing, training and handover, so you know what will be delivered before work begins.

Do you account for Illinois rules on AI in hiring and biometric data?

Yes. If a workflow touches applicants, employees or biometric data, we flag where the Human Rights Act amendment, BIPA or the AI Video Interview Act may apply and build the notice, consent and review steps into the design. Your counsel makes the legal call.
